Hello~

Firstly: english is not my native language, please forgive the occasionnal spelling mistakes and other nonsense.

It's been a long time I wanted to get rid of my mobile phone and only have a house phone ; so I told myself that I have to get a very good one. And this is how I bought a D385.

I tried to configure it, went on the settings on my browser, checked on internet for tutorials, and I have a big problem with the "Identities". Following tutorials on internet, I see people fill boxes with what looks like only-companies informations (like "registrar"). So I doubt more and more being able to use it for private prurposes...

Can someone tell me if, indeed, I need to send it back to the seller, or if I can still make this work (and how ?).

Thanks to thos who'll take the time to answer.

Max.

    Hi,

Our phones as the D385 are all VoIP devices based on the SIP protocol: to be able to configure them and use them, you would need SIP details (which include a SIP server, often called Registrar as in our web interface)

It's usually not possible to configure them directly on your phone's provider network, as you would need some specific service they may not offer by default

The telephone line provider may already be able provide those in specific conditions, and the best way to know would be to ask them of course

If that isn't possible, you may contact one of the Snom partners in your area, some of them may offer a SIP account with the related SIP trunk (for a price, of course) even if you already own the hardware

Our sales team (https://www.snom.com/en/contact/contact-person/) should be able to point you in the direction of a partner in your area, not to help directly but to give you the contact of somebody that may be able to

    Thank you

      Hello

      Thank you for your answer.

Things may be too complicated for me unfortunately. I think I'll just return the phone.

      Thanks again!

    Dear Max,

Which country do you reside in?

with mobile phone you indeed mean you cellular phone connected to GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G, right?

As Gianmaria already wrote, you need some Internet-based service (called SIP provider) which provides you with a phone number so that people are able to call you. In countries like Germany, it is fairly common that when you book a Internet connection as a private person, those contracts automatically include such a number and a SIP service.

It depends on the router you use or your Internet provider may have send you, some of them also include the possibility to let you phone connect to it internally.

    Hello,

I live in France, and I just spent a long moment reviewing all the options of my internet provider's website and no trace of a mention to SIP in my subsciption...

Too bad, but as I said, I think it would've been too complicated for me anyway.

Sorry for the trouble, and thank you for your answer.
