Key Information:

  • Affected models are D315, D335, D385, D712, D715, D717, D735, and D785: These devices come with smaller ramdisks. Without updating to 10.1.175.x first, you will not be able to install this and future updates that include security improvements, new features, or essential fixes.
  • Devices that are not affected are D140, D150, D713, D812, D815, D862, D865, PA1+, SP800: Those devices already come with the bigger ramdisk and can be updated to newer firmware versions independently.

We strongly encourage users with older software versions and affected devices to update to this version as soon as possible to ensure your device remains secure and up-to-date with the latest features and fixes.

Chained Firmware Update

Alternatively, you can use the chained firmware update method to ensure your phones will be able to update to future firmware versions. For this, you need to put together a combined download URL consisting of one of these ramdisk change updates

snomD315-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD335-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD385-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD712-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snom715-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD717-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD735-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin
snomD785-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin

and your target firmware version.

E.g.: If you want to update your D785 coming from version 10.1.169.x to firmware version 10.1.184.14 directly, you will need to provide the following chained firmware download link URL to the phone:

https://downloads.snom.com/fw/update/snomD785-ramdisk-chained-update-r.bin?chained_url=https://downloads.snom.com/fw/10.1.184.14/bin/snomD785-10.1.184.14-SIP-r.bin

The firmware update can either be initiated in the Web User Interface of the phone, or via auto-provisioning.

Support of Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (UK) and California IoT Security Law (SB-327)

Snom increased the security requirements of all devices by enforcing setting passwords to support the legal requirements listed below. Please note, that you can not use a phone unless it has not configured a password.

For devices D1xx, D3xx, D7xx and D81xx

http_user
http_pass

For devices D862 and D865

webserver_user_name
webserver_user_password

The PhoneManager of D86x phones is expecting a password with state-of-the-art complexity. The password should contain small and capital letters, numbers, and special signs. This password complexity requirement does not apply to passwords that are set by provisioning.

You can read more about SB-327 and PSTI regulations under the links.

New Series of deskphones D81x

Snom announces with this version the new D81x series, first with the models D812 and D815W which are based on our firmware running in the D7xx series and known for years as a reliable product.

While our security advisories page recommends enabling use_hidden_tags to enhance security, turning this feature "on" may result in several minor known issues affecting the Web User Interface (WUI). For example: Cannot delete a speed dial number or directory entry, cannot navigate to the next page in the directory listing,..

These issues are expected to be resolved in the next maintenance release. In the meantime, we suggest users to keep use_hidden_tags disabled at this time to avoid these inconveniences.

End of Life notice for D712

This is the last release for the model Snom D712 as this model reached the End of Life. We advise to change to the model Snom D713, or to Snom D717.

NOTE:

As the D86x series is based on a substantially modernized software/software architecture you may find limitations & functional gaps compared to the D3xx & D7xx series. The severity of such depends on the scope and complexity of your specific PBX solution. But no worries, if you find your solution not yet fully supported as known from D3xx & D7xx: By upcoming development we will not only strive to close such potential gaps in comparison to D3xx & D7xx series but even surpass these series in the future.

Snom announces with this version the new D81x series, which is based on our firmware running in the D7xx series and known for years as a reliable product.

Known issues and limitations:

SAP-6326: The new WUI, web user interface is far advanced, esp. technically compared to D3xx & D7xx but does not yet support the entire scope of options & features known from its predecessor @D8xx series

→ Workaround: You can still access the predecessor web interface via http:// IP address of the phone:3112 (please note the http instead of http*s* and the port 3112) Please check the current value of setting: webservertype to be set to http_https or http for this workaround.

XQI-4743: Snom D865 / D862 re-invite after refer when performing a transfer. This can cause problems especially when phones of different brands are part of the blind transfer scenario. Currently no workaround. The bug will fixed as soon as possible and an update will be provided.

D86x supports now multiple headsets with USB connection. Some Bluetooth headsets, however need to be still tested and configured.

→ No workaround.
